Halley O’Brien Wins First Emmy Award

Halley O’Brien Wins First Emmy Award

Boulder, CO  (August 8, 2019) – Halley O’Brien, host and executive producer of The Snow Report Show presented by SKI Magazine, has won her first Emmy Award. The exciting news has been well-received by those involved with the production of the show at SKI Magazine and Halley O’Brien Productions.

This is O’Brien’s fifth Regional Emmy nomination and first win, honoring her work as on-camera talent in the snowy series.

“I am so over-the-moon excited! I honestly can’t believe it,” says O’Brien. “To have the opportunity to work alongside such great minds and talents throughout the ski industry – from the awesome team at SKI Magazine, to all of our partner resorts, to the viewers of the show – I am just so grateful for everyone’s support and excitement.”

“Halley is the most professional, talented on-screen host in outdoor media,” says Jon Jay, Digital Content Editor at SKI Magazine. “Everything she produces is as authentic as it gets, and she has an astounding amount of energy and enthusiasm for her work. The entire staff of SKI Magazine is thrilled to see her receive the recognition she deserves by winning this Emmy for on-screen talent.”

O’Brien continues, “I put my heart and soul into every piece of content we create, and to have my work recognized and honored by the Heartland Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, it’s truly remarkable.”

About to enter its fifth season, The Snow Report Show’s authentic irreverence and storytelling style, as well as its extensive roster of partner ski resorts throughout North America, helps promote skiing and snowboarding to a broad, inclusive audience.

O’Brien writes, hosts, and produces The Snow Report and comes from a heralded career in the snow sports and resorts business. Earlier this spring, Halley received the North American Snowsports Journalism Association Mitch Kaplan Award, which is “presented to the journalist whose work and spirit best captures the enthusiasm and dedication of the late Mitch Kaplan, NASJA’s former secretary-treasurer.”

Season 5 of The Snow Report Show will kick off this October on skimag.com/thesnowreport and thesnowreport.com, so be sure to check back when the temperatures start dropping.

Though it may seem increasingly inconceivable to recall such a time, the ancient days of social media — think all the way back to 2008 — were an ambiguous period highlighted more by potential than interaction. Smartphones, still in their infancy, managed to produce only still photos, the term, “Snapchat” might only refer to a quick conversation by the water cooler, and perhaps the worst that could be said about Facebook’s invasion of privacy was an overabundance of pet photos.

It’s also when Halley O’Brien took the first steps to arguably becoming the queen of skiing and riding social media.

Odds are you’ve run across O’Brien’s infectious presence in some video form online, whether it was in her early days as a snow reporter for Mount Snow Resort or during her Emmy-nominated run as the host of the “SnoCountry Snapshot,” a weekly breakdown of the happenings and conditions from various destinations coast to coast for SnoCountry, the Lebanon, N.H.-based snow reporting network.

It is in these short clips that O’Brien’s notable on-camera presence is discernible, as she plays the role of spokesperson with what comes across as an authentic passion for the skiing scene.

“Halley is everything you would want to represent both SnoCountry and skiing and riding,” SnoCountry president Michael Colbourn said. “She’s naturally funny, loves being on the hill, and conveys our message in a very engaging manner . . . . One of skiing and riding’s rock stars.”

But it is on “The Snow Report,” a weekly Web series presented by SKI Magazine, where O’Brien has found room to truly display her witty energy and a place to carve her niche in a role that might compare to a late-night talk show host dedicated to all things skiing…
